Every woman I know is on a never ending quest for the perfect underwear. Every few months it comes up as a topic of conversation amongst my friends as we reassess our underwear drawer. I figured there must be other women out there on the same search, so why not make the conversation public?
Personally, I swear by Skims thongs. They’re super comfortable, flattering, decently priced and don’t fall apart after two washes (I only hang dry them). Side note, I also wear their bralettes and sports bras of the same material. But, back to the subject…I have a long torso so I prefer the regular version over the ‘front dipped’ style. A few of my friends have complained that they don’t breathe in the summer, but I haven’t had that problem.
When lounging around the house in underwear and a tee, or if I’m on my period I like to wear a cotton bikini from Amazon that a friend put me on to awhile back. I can’t find the link, but these look somewhat similar. Ideally I’d love to wear 100% cotton panties only, but so far I have yet to find a pair that fits all my criteria.
I asked a few friends to weigh in and here’s what they had to say:
Margeaux Elkrief, @margeauxelkrief:
I love Negative Underwear’s french cut briefs for everyday. Super comfy and cute.
Zoe Johnston, @zoejjohnston (also check out her Substack Raw Milk):
I have 3 pairs of Gush thongs and thank god I have a washer/dryer (I know I'm probably supposed to hand wash nice underwear..?). Sexy, comfortable, fit perfectly. I wear them as bathing suit bottoms in the summer (not for the faint of heart). Skims Fits Everybody Thong is for when my Gush is in the wash. Arq used to be a favorite for a good cotton pair, but apparently now out of business. Lastly, I'm a big Thinx girly. Note I did just try to type in Thinx and the first thing that came up was "Thinx Underwear Settlement" so do with that what you will...
Madeline Clayton, @madelineclayton_:
Jockey They’re not super cute, but affordable and very comfortable. I have loved them for my postpartum period!
Christina Hogan, @christinahogan_:
Negative Underwear. The price might feel steep at first but they’re worth it. Comfortable enough for every day, but also sexy.
Maria Vogel, @mariarosevogel:
Since I was a teenager I have worn Aerie underwear. They’re tried and true. I have tried more expensive pairs and more expensive brands, but these ones just really do the job and hit the price point that I like. You can get like 5 pairs for $25 and they always have sales. They also have great no-show options, which I personally indulge in. I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything else from Aerie in my life, but for some reason their underwear slaps. I highly recommend.
Cora Keegan, @corasface:
It’s just hard to find good basics without all the fluff. I guess I’d say parade and Los Angeles Apparel for basics and price point. Parade has good bralettes/underwear, but Los Angeles apparel - I like their swim too. I feel like they’d have good underwear. Honestly I get basic thongs on Amazon for cheap. My stylist friend also sent me this.

Honestly, it’s so hard because I really like the ones from Aerie…but, it’s Aerie. That’s what’s stocked up in my current underwear drawer, but I’d love to find something better. I haven’t found something that is organic cotton and feels like it’s good for me.
Kim Smith-Cowans, @s__k__i__m:
My favorite underwear is The Great Eros Canova Ouvert French Cut Bikini. It’s a very high cut, high leg, high waisted, sheer, crotchless panty. The crotchless part is so clever and I love it.

I’m currently testing Knix, Negative and Skims in lots of styles and will report back! I’m not going to lie, Target sometimes pulls through with some good seamless options (100% cotton gusset always).
Intimissimi is it, tbh. I also like Chantelle and Commando.
